Gene Trogan, PhD

Director, Commercial Analytics & Market Access

In charge of RI’s research group, Gene began his career as a researcher at New York University School of Medicine, publishing seminal work in heart disease. He then conducted patent prosecution for pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies at Fish & Richardson, a nationally recognized intellectual property law firm. Gene then moved to the investment side of the industry, where he identified and managed a portfolio of investments for the healthcare-focused fund Ursus Capital Management and then went on to head the biotech equity research department for Morgan Joseph & Co., a leading investment bank. Gene then transitioned to the pharma industry, to Forest Laboratories’ New Products group, where he evaluated the commercial prospects for products in cardiovascular, diabetes, neurology, immunology, and a number of orphan drug indications. He left Forest to become a Managing Director at a strategic consulting firm, Aperion Biopharma Advisors, where he led assessment & market research teams focused on evaluating the commercial potential of prospective licensing and acquisition opportunities for large pharma clients. Gene has lectured at Columbia University, the National Institutes of Health, and a variety of industry conferences. He has also been quoted widely in The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, and other media outlets. Gene holds a PhD from New York University in Biomedical Sciences and a BS from Duke University.
